The Seattle Coalition for Peace in the Middle East was one of the two main Seattle coalitions that opposed the 1991 Gulf War (the other being the Northwest Coalition Against U.S. Military Intervention in the Mid-East). By the time of the shooting war, when it organized a demonstration at the Federal Building that shut down the center of Seattle for several days, it included about 50 organizations.

A document from October 1990 shows the following member organizations; many more joined in the following months.

  • Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC)
  • International Jewish Peace Union (IJPU)
  • Kadima/New Jewish Agenda
  • Fellowship of Reconciliation (FoR)
  • Pledge of Resistance
  • Gray Panthers
  • Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (CISPES)
  • Intentional Futures
  • Philipine Action Network
  • Sky Valley Peace Council
  • Jesuit Shalom Center
  • Seattle Nonviolent Action Group (SNAG)
  • Alliance for Latin America
  • Seattle Women Act for Peace
  • Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)
  • Snohomish County SANE/FREEZE

The group's points of unity were:

  1. Opposition to U.S. military intervention in the Middle East.
  2. Opposition fo the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait as a violation of international law.
  3. Support for the 1983 U.N. call for an international Peace Confrence to resolve all military occupations, including the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem.
  4. Support for democratic rights and self-determination for all people in the region.

The coalition operated on the basis that each member organization had a single vote.
