Lake Union is a freshwater lake contained entirely within the Seattle city limits. It connects to Puget Sound to the west at the Ballard Locks (which keep the lake's water levels constant and salt levels fairly consistent). It connects to the the east to Lake Washington via the Montlake Cut.

Lake Union is the location for the now-famous Seattle houseboats, including the houseboat from the film Sleepless in Seattle. There are also plenty of water planes that take off and land regularly.

Gas Works Park is on the northern shore of Lake Union.
