Association for Women in Science Seattle Area Chapter (AWIS-SA):

The Seattle Area Chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS-SA) is the local affiliate of the National AWIS. National AWIS was founded in 1971 to advance the careers of women in science. Our chapter, established in 1985, promotes networking, sponsors monthly meetings and a chapter newsletter, and a variety of community outreach activities. Our members have a wide range of interests and educational backgrounds, and includes women and men, scientists and non-scientists, students and professionals.

Chapter Meetings:

Chapter meetings are held monthly, September through June, and are open to the public at no cost. The meetings feature guest speakers discussing scientific research, public health and environmental issues, and career development. Special programs each year include AWIS scholarship awards (September) and an annual career panel presentation. The meetings are held at the UW South Lake Union Building at 815 Mercer Street on the third Wednesday of each month. The programs begin at 7 pm and are preceded by networking and refreshments at 6:30 pm.
