Alaska Airlines Seattle's very own airline as far as being based here goes. It also owns a smaller company ,Horizon Air, as a regional airline.
It started out in 1932 as Mcgee airways in Alaska. It soon grew to become the largest Alaskan airline. Afterwards it expanded outside of Alaska and Seattle and after many mergings became the present day Alaska Air.
Flying from Seattle doesn't make it necessaraly cheaper. Even on flights to Alaska there might be similar deals with other cities.
